Design + Technology = True

product technology

I love design and I love technology and when you combine these you really make my day. Unfold studio and Physalias are doing exactly this. They have created some very interesting objects that are impressing. We now have so much technology and the task is to combine these two. These two studios even make their own machines. The equipment you need is available on the internet, and then by adding ingenuity and creativity you make the magic happen! Sign me up if you are in development of new cool machines.

Growing Data

technology typography

Growing Data is a research project by Onformative and Christopher Warnow examining how real processes and structures can be used to create an alternative form of data visualization. The concept is a bit hard to explain in just a few lines here, but I recommend that you check out the projects page for Growing Data. To visualize the data from different big cities they have created a script alowing making a  name of each city grow. Designer Craig Word also had the chance to play with the script creating Love Spread. See more of the beautiful and interesting words and letters under after the jump.

Lucy McRea for Robyn

animation art fashion styling technology

Its not only the music I love about the Swedish artist Robyn, but the cover art of her 3 CDs this year, is also avant-garde and trendsetting. I’ve been dying to find out who the artist behind the three Body Talks albums is, and now I’ve finally got the answer! Australian artist Lucy McRae is a great mind whom I’ve written about before. I am always amazed by her take on the human body, using textures and shapes that are strange, bold and so, so beautiful. She had the art directed on the three album covers as well as the video for Indestructible, and here you can see more pictures and behind the scenes material from  «the making of»!

Phonophon III

product technology

When Phonophone first came in 2008,  I was in love with the idea of having a modern version of the old gramophone play music from your iPod. Phonophone I was tall and elegant, but II was the one I really felt had an outstanding design. Now Phonophone is back with a third version, but I really cant say that I like it. I was expecting it to be a better version of II, not a weird looking design, which has almost lost the identity of the gramophone. The dock also seems to have a big and strange shape, in contrast to the otherwise clean shapes and lines. More pics after the jump, and also check out what I wrote about Phonophone II. Read more…

graphics technology

I must say that I simply love my iPhone, as well as the many new apps that comes a long with it. The development in apps seems to go in what I would say is a good direction – more and more apps have a well designed look, and they help us as user to be more creative. Cartolina is an app I simply adore: you can choose from different designed templates, type in your messages and send them as text or mail to someone that deserve some extra attention. It easy to use, and it looks fabulous! More pics after the jump… Read more…
