2nd Shift

concept furnitures product

I recently posted my idea for a project called Make Room, where my goal is to create a place for designers in Oslo with a workshop area, material library and social arena. Today I got an email from a group of designers in Ohio who have already put their dream to life – a workshop area where they design and build smart, beautiful and useful products. 2nd shift studio consist of seven creatives all under the age of 26, and I love their passion and personalities that they clearly shows in both their initiative to start this up, in their products and videos. I really wish I could be part of this in Ohio, but hopefully we can start up something similar in Oslo soon!

IKEA + Carl Kleiner

photography product styling

Last year IKEA teamed up with photographer Carl Kleiner and made a series of really inspiring photos for the cookbook “Homemade is best”. The images showed all the ingredients lined out on the table in a new, modern and minimalistic way – and it became a huge viral success. Now IKEA and Kleiner has teamed up again, this time also with stylist Evalina Kleiner. This time the images show what kitchen applies you can get from IKEA, on a tight budget. The result is surprisingly decorative and elegant!

Peggy

product

Here is another great product from Sarah Wright Polmar; Peggy! Inspired by the The Hammer Peg Board for kids, she has created a fun, colourful and practical furniture to hang all you favourite items on. Peggy is not only colourful and pretty to look at but, I love the creative way Sarah makes me want to assemble my own product. By playing on the child game, I really want to hammer the pegs in, almost so much that I don’t want to make it stuck on the wall… More pictures after the jump.

Sarah Wright Polmar

furnitures product

A couple of weeks ago it was Designers Saturday here in Oslo and one of the new designers I noticed was Sarah Wright Polmar. The first thing I noticed was her cute boxes made out of Formica (or Respatex as we call it in Norway) – a material that is old fashion and retro and reminds me of when I was a child. The boxes are pretty and practical, and Sarah has also made a matching table witch I really like. More pictures of the boxes and table after the jump. More about Sarah’s work in the next post as well…

The Story

lighting product

One of my favorite norwegian designers, Vibeke Skar is back with a new lamp made in collaboration with Ida Noemi. The story lamp mixes old craftsmanship methods with new technology. The porcelain is slip-casted and burnt, before the pattern is mounted on the curved surface and sandblasted to create the embossed look.

On her webpage Vibeke says about the lamp:
“Once upon a time there was a lamp called Story. Born in Norway between high mountains and deep fjords, it dreamed of lighting up small wooden houses in the dark forests. With a translucent pattern depicting traditional knitting, it warmed the hearts of the travelers it met on its journey.”

Personally I am a big fan of Vibeke’s work, also because she sees the importance in good photos and stylings around her products. See more of the fairy tail inspired images by Kaja Bruskeland after the jump.
