Ray

lighting product

Once in a while I stumble across products I feel really conflicted about – and this lamp, Ray, from the Norwegian designer Kristine Five Melvær is just like that. My first impression of this is that it reminds me of a strange structure that someone has threaded old stockings over. The textile makes me think of skin and old ladies, and the shape is like a mix of a hat and a mushroom. But then again I like this weird idea of putting on cloths or skin on a structure like this, and I cant help but to adore this strange looking lamps.

Skog

lighting

The norwegian designer Caroline Olsson is nominated for ELLE Decoration’s International Design Award for Young Designer of 2011 and I simply love her playful style. Her products are great examples of  the scandinavian furniture style at the moment, and I especially adore this series of lamps called «Skog» produced by Magnor Glassverk.

« The Skog series consists of several lights in different sizes, shapes and colours, which can be used in combination with each other or as stand alone pieces. They are all made in mouth blown crystal with a base in oak made by using the technique of wood turning. The design is inspired by the large forests surrounding Magnor Glassverk. Skog is the Norwegian word for forest. Simply place a few of the lights together on the floor or on a table in order to create your own little forest. »

Balloons

furnitures lighting

I recently moved into a new apartment and one of the thing constantly on my mind these days is finding perfect furnitures and lamps to get the style I want. I realize I have become quite picky – I want something fun, edgy and aesthetic as the same time as its functionality should be at its best. The lamp collection «Balloons» from Paris based designers Dan Yeffet and Lucie Koldova is just that.

The series of elegant, handmade blown glass lamps are based on an idea of transparent ‘invisible’ volume with a floating reflector. Not only are these lamp stunning, but I have to say the stylist for this photos has done quite a good job, picking wood «tables» as the perfect contrast between a light and clean lines of glass, and the solid, natural and heavy shapes of wood. I haven’t figured out how or where to buy these yet, but I hope someone will start selling these in Norway…. More pictures after the jump!

The Story

lighting product

One of my favorite norwegian designers, Vibeke Skar is back with a new lamp made in collaboration with Ida Noemi. The story lamp mixes old craftsmanship methods with new technology. The porcelain is slip-casted and burnt, before the pattern is mounted on the curved surface and sandblasted to create the embossed look.

On her webpage Vibeke says about the lamp:
“Once upon a time there was a lamp called Story. Born in Norway between high mountains and deep fjords, it dreamed of lighting up small wooden houses in the dark forests. With a translucent pattern depicting traditional knitting, it warmed the hearts of the travelers it met on its journey.”

Personally I am a big fan of Vibeke’s work, also because she sees the importance in good photos and stylings around her products. See more of the fairy tail inspired images by Kaja Bruskeland after the jump.

LIGHTBOY by Yi Cong Lu

furnitures lighting product

This lamp, made by Yi Cong Lu, is a very light, elegant and playful. It’s made up by very simple objects which are easy to like. I call this type of design honest. Just by looking briefly at the object you can distinguish the different elements of the lamp from each other. The designer has used recognizable object to build the lamp, so it feels familiar and home. And he has made it easy to fold and carry it if that is desirable.

With either pale and strong colors it will be a fun and joyful piece for your interior.
