R2B2

furnitures interior product

One of my favorites from this years Salone del Mobile is the R2B2 by Christoph Therard in Studio Montag. He has created a kitchen appliance with alternative drive concept. It has a pedal driven machinery that gives the appliance their power.

I love it because it takes us back to the origin of the machine. The machinery looks great in that old fashion woodbox. The balance between old and new is well done. The coffee grinder, blender and bowl are made with few elements and the pure design style makes it look fresh and attractive, and they don’t distract from the idea and concept.

Unfortunately the drawer and side cabinet feels like a school project and is not as well processed as the rest. But the biggest problem is if you want to install R2B2 into your kitchen counter, the main attribute to this design disappears. The machine is then hidden into the counter. Therefor it needs to stand alone and as a single furniture.

But I don’t care about that. I just love this piece. I’m a fool for machines and this machine made my day.

Salone del Mobile 2011 – Fiera

inspiration interior

The biggest problem with being in Milan for the international furniture fair is that there is s much to see and do that you don’t have time to sit down and write about it. Yesterday we started our first day here with a trip to Fiera where all the big brands are exhibited. It’s the commercial part of the fair, with a lot of boring and “old” products but once in pavilion 16-20 we also found a lot of interesting stuff. Here are my snapshots of from yesterday and please stay tuned for more exiting news as soon is I have time to sit down!

Congratulation to Fuglen!

concept furnitures graphics interior

From Designers Day 2011:

One of the categories I was most exited about for the award of design excellency, was this years newcomer category: Services. I was happy to see that a small and charming coffee shop named Fuglen was one of the first two receivers of the award in this category. Fuglen is a coffee shop during the day, a cocktail bar at night and a full-time interior design store selling furniture and design objects from the 50s and 60s. In their retro-inspired design profile made by Rockberry, they’ve managed to integrate modern elements and technology such as Qr-codes. The design profile and the retro-feeling is implemented in all aspects – the interior, the website, the shop and the coffee bar. If your ever in Oslo, Fuglen is a place to visit!

Pino

concept graphics interior

Finally spring has started to arrive even i Norway, and I feel in desperate need of a colors. Pino is a fresh and colorful store from Finland, that really brought some color to my day! Pino sells unique, functional and innovative design objects and the idea for the concept came from the name of the shop, which means a ‘pile’ or ‘stack’ in Finnish. I love how the design and concept has been developed in both printed materials and interior by Bond Creative Agency, which gives it a playful, though trough and unique look. Take you Tine for the tip! More pictures after the jump….

Maemo

graphics interior

Maemo is a new ecological gourmet restaurant in Oslo, which I can’t wait to go to.  So fare I have only read great critics about it, and it doesn’t exactly make it less interesting with a great visual profile and a cool interior. Placed in the new harbour area with a lot of windows you get the industrial-chic vibe. The design for Maaemo is inspired by Scandinavian nature and architecture. The design reflects on lines, shapes, rhythm and light creating a poetic, Nordic modernism and was made by Torgeir Hjetland and Ludvig Bruneau Rossow.
