Michelberge Hotel, Berlin

concept interior

Last weekend I spent walking around in wonderful Berlin, just absorbing the creative lifestyle, the big buildings and dining in great restaurants. A big bonus to the trip was staying at the cool hotel Michelberger. Even before we arrived, my expectations to the hotel was set high, based on the impression of the floating space shuttle with weird animations on their webpage. But the weird and cute didn’t disappoint in real life either… they where hidden all over the hotel as small messages on the shampoo bottle, by playing The Big Lebowski over and over again in the hallways, and by their minimal, raw and young interior design. The only thing that didn’t deliver was the service – which at times felt a bit arrogant. But Michelberger is definitely a great place to stay if you want to have a unique experience in a hotel, at the same times as you get to visit the great city of Berlin.

Fary tale interior by Otwerpduo

interior

When this is posted I am probably swimming in the sea outside of Greece – finally having my summer break. But even though I get a week of hot, sunny days in Greece, I have to return to Norway where the autumn already has arrived. This autum the trends are inspired by fairies, fary tales and nature, and I love it! Ontwerpduo has designed a room in a 16th century mansion with that in mind… They designed 10 pieces all based on different fairy tales, or themes from fairy tales, such as: the secret room, genie in a bottle, princess on the pea, sleeping beauty, etc.

The colours, the layers and the technique are perfect and I almost want to come back from the sun and get warm and cosy in this perfect autumn interior. Read more…

Dandelion Seeds

interior product styling

First day back at the office after a month of working for another graphic design agency – and a short week of summer holiday! Its a bit sad to see that the Norwegian summer is almost over, and today it felt like autumn was about to arrive. But one thing I love about the last summer days, are the dandelion seeds. Over the last couple of years the dandelion seeds have become a decorative element in many designs, and this wall decorations by Bility is a good example. I love the play on shadows and light! See more pics after the jump, or visit the lovely Icelandic store Birkiland!

Powerful paintings by Jeremiah Goodman

art illustration interior

I read about Jeremiah Goodman in the last issue of Frame and immediately became a fan.

Jeremiah Goodman was born in 1922 in New York and started studying arts at the age of 16. He is one of a kind artist who specialized in painting interiors. He has painted the homes of famous people like Ronald Reagan, Richard Rogers, Carolina Herrera and Yves Saint Laurent.

Jeremiah has the ability to communicate the feeling of the interior. When he painted Richard Rogers room he expressed: “Jeremiah, your painting of our living room is as I imagine it….”

I love his talent to use light and strong colors to emphasize the feeling of the room. No one makes paintings like this anymore. We are using computers to simulate reality. The results are sterile and anonymous, and there are no emotions in the pictures.

Jeremiah Goodman is 89 years now and still working in his home/office in NYC. And he is still passionate about his work.

Hot carpets from Hay

furnitures interior

During Salone del mobile this year there was one interior trend that clearly stood out – carpets! For this autumn carpets are the hottest element in your interior, and its all about texture, comfort and decoration. You can play with patterns, different colours and even have several carpets lying on top of each other. HAY has really taken this trend seriously and introduces some really nice, and colourful carpets from Scholten & Baijings in their collection, as well as their own vintage Boucherouites. Suddenly I cant wait for the autumn to arrive – take a look at more pictures after the jump.
