RNLI: Lifeboats by Supafrank

illustration packaging

It summer and nothing is better than being at the sea on a sunny day. Design agency SupaFrank was hired to remind and illustrate just that, on the packaging of the RNLI – a charity that saves lives at sea. SupaFrank made the illustrations for chocolate, biscuit and candy packaging’s, making the day at sea even sweeter and also reminding us to be safe on water. I love the design and the nostalgic feeling it awakes – and on top of that I think the message is good and important, especially considering all the boat accidents we’ve had in Norway lately.

Summertime!

illustration

It is summertime and as you probably have noticed I am a bit slow on writing posts these days. Why? Well simply because I am working at day and enjoying the summer at night. So to celebrate the summer, here are some nice illustrations from Russian Iv Orlov. Theses posters are made for Martini’s new cocktail “Martini Royale”. The design gives me the feeling of summer, party and warmth, mixed up with a retro-edge.

Powerful paintings by Jeremiah Goodman

art illustration interior

I read about Jeremiah Goodman in the last issue of Frame and immediately became a fan.

Jeremiah Goodman was born in 1922 in New York and started studying arts at the age of 16. He is one of a kind artist who specialized in painting interiors. He has painted the homes of famous people like Ronald Reagan, Richard Rogers, Carolina Herrera and Yves Saint Laurent.

Jeremiah has the ability to communicate the feeling of the interior. When he painted Richard Rogers room he expressed: “Jeremiah, your painting of our living room is as I imagine it….”

I love his talent to use light and strong colors to emphasize the feeling of the room. No one makes paintings like this anymore. We are using computers to simulate reality. The results are sterile and anonymous, and there are no emotions in the pictures.

Jeremiah Goodman is 89 years now and still working in his home/office in NYC. And he is still passionate about his work.

Summer-land

illustration

Its not so often that I show you hand drawings any more. Why? Simply because most of the graphic design and illustrations I come across is made on computer. But it’s still nice to see that some illustrators uses hand drawings, like Lisa Corbett does. Her series «Summer-land» explores  the spirit world which she believes co-exists with this one, the veil between life and death. Whether you believe in spirits or not; her drawings in ink, watercolor and gouache on paper, are beautiful! Take a look after the jump… Read more…

HIFI Typography

graphics illustration

I have written about the crazy work of the Norwegian design agency Oh yeay studio, and now they have blown me away again. For HI-FI klubben, the biggest chain in Scandinavian with high quality sound- and image products like stereos, TV, loud speakers etc, they’ve created this hand-drawn typography. Love the details and the playful, edgy stile.
