Sugar Creatures

graphics

I’m not sure I have understood the whole thing with deisgnertoys, but I have to admit that some of them are quite cute. Like these Sugar Creatures from Ragnheidur Osp Sigurdardottir,. I have now idea what to use them for but as it is explained on Birkiland pages: ”The Sugar Creatures live together in a fruit that hangs from a tree. They need to gather sugar to keep their queen alive. The queen lives in a cocoon at the center of the fruit where she breeds more sugar creatures. This type of sugar creature guards the sugar.”

Beautiful brooches from Ane Haugen

graphics

Not to long ago I was exhibiting at an exhibition in Oslo, and it was there I noticed the work of Ane Haugen . She is a Norwegian girl who moved to England to live out here dream of taking a BA in metal and jewellery. Now she has started on here post-graduate training workshops for silversmiths and jewellers, and she has made some really beautiful brooches…

The brooches are made with a mirroring effect to reveal colourful gemstones within. They are all made of precious white metal and plated with either rhodium or gold that creates an even greater colour contrast with the coloured stones.

Ane explains: “I make brooches because I feel they are independent pieces of jewellery. They can be small or large in size. They have their own personality and I feel there are very few boundaries in creating a brooch which gives me the chance to make experimental work. But one very important aspect to me is that they are placed close to the heart. They can be interpreted as emblems of protection that also gives strength to the wearer”

I really love this work, and cant wait for Ane to show us the new collection she is working on!

Bender and Bucket

graphics

It’s getting darker and darker here in Norway and the lack of light can make you sad and depressed. So what better excuse to buy a new lamp or two? NorthernLighting launched Bender and Bucket in August, designed by Morten Kildahl. Bender is a large floor décor lamp that also works well as a reading lamp. Bucket is the pendant lamp version of Bucket with aluminium lampshade.

Isklar

graphics

Walking through any big city you often end up with free samples of stuff, and today I got a bottle of the new glacial mineral water, Isklar. The water, taste likes any other Norwegian water but the bottle is what makes it special. With inspiration from the dense glacier ice the bottle is build up with triangles, witch makes me think of snow crystals and ice.

Colour your own wallpaper!

graphics

When I was a kid I loved colouring books, and this incredible wallpaper where you can fill in your own colours just makes me want to go back to colouring and childhood. But the wallpaper designed by Jon Burgerman is not only for kids; it will fit perfectly into an adult home to someone who has embraced their inner child (like me!), and like to have a unique decoration on their wall.
