Inspiration: my favourite food and dessert blogs

food design inspiration

Normally I write about design and design only at this blog, but today I want to go a bit off topic. I’ve been home sick for the last couple of days and I’ve spent my time watching episodes of Top Chef and Top Chef: just desserts.  At one point in my life I had a really hard time choosing between going to culinary school and to study art and design. I ended up choosing the last (and I am really happy about that), but following what’s going on in the food industry makes me see  many similarities between the two fields. So much of creating a perfect desert is about the construction, the design and off course the taste. Not to mention that the overall aesthetic is, as in design, the key ingredient whether it’s for a cake, a dish or a product.

Since cooing and baking really inspires me I tough I could give you my list of favourite food and dessert sites…

See my list as well as some fabulous food pictures after the jump.

Bar Gelato

food design packaging

One of the things I miss the most from the years I lived in Italy is the gelato. Nothing compeers to the Italian ice cream, especially not from Chocolat in Milan. I don’t know if these Italian ice-creams on a stick can compete with that, but I must say I am curios and hopeful. Bar Gelato is made from California based Gelateria Naia, with a perfect packaging design from Danish born, Portland based designer Mette Hornung Rankin. The packaging is really simple and elegant, and it showcase the delicious ice-cream in a delicate and retro-chic way.  Anyone know where I can have one of these in Norway?

Jacob Dahlstrup Jensen

art concept food design

It is impossible not to smile and fall in love with this banana boat! The Danish artist Jacob Dahlstrup Jensen has a lot of sailor inspired works in his portfolio –form beautiful tattoo- drawings under the title  “Between the devil and the deep blue”, to funny and smart installations and objects like this Banaba boat and the floating anchor. I really like his humorous twist on things!  See more pictures after the jump, and please visit his site in order to get inspired, have a laugh and to be amazed! Read more…
