Exhausted cutlery

Now that I am in the "objects have feelings"-mood, I really loved this cutlery from the silversmith and designer Kathryn Hinton. I don't know how practical they are, but something tells me that they wont fall off your plate and grease up your table!

Tom Dixon 2008/2009 Collection

Tom Dixon, the man who had to have two motorcycle accidents before he realised his talent for design, is now out with his 2008/2009 Collection. As usual the lights are round, strong and colourful, and the furniture’s have soft shapes, and a natural look. Over you can see Fluoro Shade and Table, and if you press more you can see the rest of the bold collection!
Blow Light on Floor with a low-energy compact fluorescent light bulb
Mirror Ball on Stand a new addition to the Mirror Ball collection
Slab Bench
A new addition to the existing Slab collection, the Slab Chair
Slab Dining Table, as the rest of the Slab collection made in Natural Oak

Rock-Paper-Scissors
I am no sports-fan, but rock-paper-scissors is one of those few “sports” I can relate to. Now they are arranging the Norwegian Championship in rock-paper-scissors, followed by World Championship in Toronto, Canada 25. October. My good friend Tine Moe has designed their flyers and posters and it looks good!

Bottles up!
I really like packaging design, mainly because it’s usually a mix of the two things I like most; graphic and product design. A good example of that is the liquor industry with all of their expensive, luxury bottle designs. I have therefore made a little presentation of some really nice bottles… take a look!

Wallmaker?

Lately, we have seen many examples of creative, inspiring and interactive wallpaper- and here is another good example of an exciting and interactive one. The wallpaper is made by the swedish designer Hanna Nyman - a girl that handles her graphics. You can decide the pattern of the wallpaper by "making" it yourself- so every wall is distinctive and unique!

Y Water

Have you ever heard the expression "developmental drinks?" Probably not, since it is a pretty new concept. The celebrity designer Yves Béhar has designes these "Y water" bottles, and it has some interesting aspects. First of all, it is the only low calorie, functional, certified organic water beverage that promotes the physical and mental development of children. And second- they look good. They are made from a 100% latex-free biodegradable plastcs, and they encourage kids to play with it after drinking it- something that makes the life cycle side of it expanded, too.

jUxTaPlAy- collection from Aliki
Its been a while since we’ve written anything about fashion here at Playmedesign, but when I received an email from Aliki van der Kruijs, I couldn’t help not to be fascinated by the playfulness in her collection jUxTaPlAy. The clothes are based on cutting and folding principals and have a light and fresh look!

Go Big!

It's no news that I love knitwork. This fun design by the student Sebastian Schönheit (Bauhaus Universty, Germany), has both an arty side and a practical side to it. The oversized knitwork (carpet) is part of the exhibition titled TWO BLOCKS EAST WEST, and will take place in Beijing's 798 art district from the 30th of November 2008.

Rubbermaid Paint Buddy
I can’t say it often enough: Design is not only expensive furniture or luxury items. More than anything else it’s the products we all have and use. And a good example on this, is the Rubbermaid Paint Buddy. Instead of keeping old cans of paint, waiting for the day you need to freshen it up, you can rather by this smart “pen”, simply shake and apply with the built- in roller. Fast and Simple with a smart and practical design!

Weeds growing in my book...
Weeds have the tendency to grow everywhere it wants to, and now it has grown into, and taken over the pages, of the pocketbook from Kim Beck. The book A Field Guide to Weeds is not only really nice to look at, but it is also a statement to make us notice dandelion, pigweed, and poison ivy—the very plants we ignore, step over, dig up, or scrupulously avoid daily. And maybe this metaphor for plants in a book, will not only make us notice what we look at as weeds among plants but also among ourselves...

Bamboo Tricycle
Products for children are among those with shortest life-time. Many of them are cheap, low-quality and not to mention; with an aesthetic so poor that the parents cant wait to throw it away. But then once in a while you can find some products so good, esthetical and thought through, that you just want to pass it on from generation to generation. Bam Bam Baby tricycle is like that. Made of sustainably harvested bamboo, the pedals of recycled aluminium and it ships flat packed. It is not only strong and flexible but it’s also hypoallergenic and as if that wasn’t enough; it looks cool!

fairtrade-shopping

New retro, funny, great-looking bags are always good news for a girl. I discovered these supernice ones today, and found myself some favorites already. They are all made of materials like cotton, hamp and bamboo. They have ecologic shopingbags and off course fairtrade products. Drop using plastic-bags and buy yourself one of these.

Always wanted to be a Chandelier...

Have you ever considered the feelings of a piece of furniture? The designer Ohaly obviously thought about it. The lamp dosen't only have a serious side, but it's also interesting and fun, and looks pretty good, too.

Dress for dinner napkins

Taking your girlfriend out for dinner or visiting her parents? Here's the solution to look good, but also keep your shirt clean! Hector Serrano has made these napkins in different styles and colors. He describes it like this: "A small intervention of an everyday object based on a familiar situation that results on a unexpected and fun object".

Coat hooks

I met Max Lipsey at the Maarten Baas workshop during Salone del Mobile this year, and he showed me a prototype of these coat hooks. I really liked them and asked him to keep me posted on what happened with them in the future. Maybe it is my scandinavian roots or my love for wood as a material that attracted my attention, I don't know, but the fun thing was that I didn't discover that they were made of metal before I held it in my hands! Now he sent a mail saying that they are finally in production, they come in three different sizes and you can buy them here.

Paper Pulp Lamp

How many times have you bought something and then when you open it- got really irritated because of all the packaging and waste that comes with it? I know, this is not a new topic, with the ecodesign "trend", more and more designers have started to consider this while designing. That's why I wanted to show you this solution by the designer David Gardener, that I think was particularly interesting. First of all the packaging becomes the lamp, but he also made the design follow the form of the components. Great idea!
"The project was based on the packaging industry and its use of paper pulp packaging as a material. The idea was to create a lamp that would be made entirely from the packaging used to transport the electronic components", David Gardener

Off the wall

I stumbled upon this chair the other day, and off course I got Alice in Wonderland- vibes from it, but I also loved the way they have turned tradtional construction "upside down". The chair is functional and looks good, and on top of it all, challenges the conventional way of furnishing. The piece was recently part of the exhibition "Parcours, Saint Germain des Prés" in Paris, and it is designed by Lila Jang.

Tobias Jones
Tobias Jones is the cutting edge designer that newly made the cover of Computer arts magazine. On his site it says that he is an artist, designer and a lonely heartless person. Well who needs a heart if you can draw like this? His illustrations are grotesque, fun, colorful and bold, and here you can see some of my personal favorites from his works...
" I made a G today", but you made it in a sleazy way

A tribute to Peter Opsvik
I grew up in a trip trapp chair and maybe that’s the reason for my deep respect for Peter Opsvik. Not only is he one of those few Norwegian designers that actually have managed to make a name of himself, both here at home as well as abroad, but he is also a designer that thinks more about ergonomic and function in a product than the “fashion” and the “trendy” look of it. In the occasion of his new book “Rethinking sitting” released in this days I have made a little tribute to the great designer Peter Opsvik!

Triennale, Milano

I just graduated, and my school organized an exhibition in the famous Triennale Museum in Milano, Italy, for some of the graduated students. I was so lucky to be part of the exhibition, with my thesis "Good Vibes"- interactive jewelry. A lot of interesting guest were invited, such as Giulio Iacchetti, Gio Ponti's daughter, Lisa, Ico Migliore, and the list goes on. It was a fantastic oppurtunity, and there was a bunch of interesting projects to see. Here are some of them...

I'm online!

Finally MY website is finished and out there representing me. This is an online portfolio with all my works. In these days I'm doing my internship in One Zero Designbureau located in Porsgrunn, Norway. This little designagency of only 5 persons has made a lot of nice design amongst other for Autostrada, Session, Dagbladet og Playboard Magazine.
