The diamond baseball bat

I stumbled over this beautiful baseball bat at an exhibition at Galleri F15 (Moss, Norway). With diamonds covering either the barrel or the handle the two bats are part of an art-installation called “it’s a boring day” by the Norwegian artist Lars Sture. The bats are laying on wool in each their wooden box, and maybe I have just seen to many violent movies but it gives me the association to a mix between a jewelry box and a weapon container.

A sport equipment turning in to a weapon, that again turns into a luxury object and a jewelry. Diamonds are a girl’s best friends, but I bet that it will hurt a lot more being hit with it.

Even though I love everything that sparkles I cant help but to feel a bit conflicted about this art piece, and I guess that’s the meaning!

Cookie Factory have over the last months had an exhibition of skateboards with some real nice graphics! My cup of tea

I am not a big coffee drinker, but I do enjoy a good cup of tea. And although it’s old news I have to give some credit to the tea label Tea Forte for their excellent designs and teas. Not only does the tea in it self taste good, but with every little element well designed it becomes a hole new experience having a cup. Everything from the exhibitions of the flavors, the cup it gets served in, the packaging of each tea-proportion and finally the silk bag with the tea, is so thought trough and beautiful! Just my cup of tea!

Stolen jewels...

No, I am not using low res pictures! The designers Mike and Maaike, googled the worlds most precious and valuable jewelry, took the low resolution images and then transferred them on leather. I was so amazed by this project- maybe it's because I just finished my thesis on a jewelry project- I don't know- I just really liked the concept a lot.

Eat with your fingers!

Haven't we all heard "Don't eat with your fingers!" several times?! Finally somebody found a way to make it a tad more delicate. Eat with your fingers consists of a set of three mini-pieces of cutlery (knife, fork, spoon) that fit at the end of our fingers reinventing to a small degree the experience of eating and finding a hygienic middle ground between the etiquette rule and our daily routine. Probably more fun than practical- but I'll try it!

Neasden Control Centre

So we made a poll down on the right side on this page, and so fare the vote is a tie between more product design and more graphic design. Therefore I though it was time for some graphic stuff. Neasden control centre makes graphic, installation, film and motion, and they do it all in a raw style with many layers, collages and experiments. Take a look at their works here, check out their site and if you still haven’t had enough; by the book!
OH, AND KEEP VOTING!

Brighten up with Quinze and Milan

A bright colour can change a room and also a mood. I therefore think that the furnitures of Quinze and Milan are perfect to brighten up your out- and indoor environments. They are minimal with maximal colours, and somehow remind me of Lego.(and what better than to be reminded of being a bit childish?) So take a look at the following furniture’s and I hope the colours will make you smile all day!

Fold chair

This chair, that seems like a folded piece of paper, is made by the designer Christina Liljenberg Halstrøm. She is a danish furniture designer, and the chair is part of the Crafts Collection 12. The inspiration for this piece of furniture came from the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze’s thoughts about the human mind, which he describes as being in a constant process of “folding, unfolding and refolding”. The interesting part is that it is made of plexiglass- I can't imagine how sitting in it would be like, but it looks great!

The results are some really unique rooms, and I would love to spend a night in all of them! Press more to see some of the rooms!

Norways first design-hotel!!

Finally Norway has gotten its first design-hotel! Grims Grenkas, as it’s called, is located in the heart of Oslo, and although it’s not quite finished yet, it seem to be receiving great reviwes. The hotel has 42 large rooms and 24 suites, many of the larger than 70 square metres. The style is minimal, with beds from Jensen and electronics from Bang & Olufsen. So it is fair to say that it´s staying true to the Scandinavian style, although the design its not blowing me away... Dont get me wrong, it is nice, but maybe a bit to traditional? Aren’t design hotels suppose to be something new, an adventure to visit?

Grims Grenka is supposed to have the most spectacular rooftop of Oslo where you find Q-Lounge. The hotel can also entice with the modern Asian restaurant Maude and the hot new club Ghost.

philip idea-style

The english talented photographer Philip Toledano from London received a camera at the age of eleven, and believes that everything should start with an idea. Pretty good philosophy if you ask me, which I think he manages well. With this post I toast with my teacup for the wonderfulness of great ideas!

Scheisse!

Since I'm norwegian, of course news from my home country is always great- espescially when they are made of young talented designers- and even better if the design is great, too! These three new lamps from Northern lighting, are refreshing and fun- just how we like it here on our blog.

Scheisse is a large pendant lamp. The lamp pays its respect to the traditional incandescent light bulb, which with its warm light and good color reflection has given light to our households for so many years. The classic light bulb is one of Man’s most important inventions. Unfortunately this bulb is ineffective, which creates challenges in our threatened environment. Scheisse is a blend of art and industrial design, an experiment with light and shadow as well as positive and negative shapes. Scheisse creates a distinct shadow and sculpture in its environment. Wherever placed, Scheisse will hopefully stand out as a true icon for all light lovers.

Butterfly is a small wall lamp designed in 1964 for Høvik Lys and later produced by Arnold Vik, Norway. In 2008 Northern Lighting decided to relaunch this Norwegian design treasure. Its uniquness lies in the combination of simplicity of form and its well preserved indirect method of exposing light, creating a bright and yet warm atmosphere. It looks simple, but is elegant and decorative as a single item, and is even more so when several are combined in vertical or horizontal groups.

Moo is a full scale wall-mounted Norwegian light moose head. Moo may be used both for indoor and outdoor decoration purposes. The figuratively shaped lamp body is made of poly-resin material, which gives a smooth and transparent flow of light. The bulbs placed inside the horns add an extra element of soft, sparkling and translucent light effect to the lamp.
The inspiration behind the Moo lamp was found in northern Norway, –in the breathtaking scenery of Hamarøy, where both of the designers have summer houses. Here the moose is frequently seen passing close to the houses and even over the lawns. The designers hope Moo will stand out as a post-modern kitch trophy, making the viewer smile happily as they recognize this “king of the Norwegian forest”.

DRAN- the online version of Pandora’s box?

I think I have found Pandora’s box. Or at least the page of the French street artist DRAN is the online version of it. Inside of his box you find the messy room of an artist, where you can press on any little detail such as a picture, a drawings, the TV, the pencil or the books, and it will open up to revel of Drans amazing works! You really just have to check it out!
