Lovely graphics

To get inspiration, I like to stroll around the world wide web, and this time a fantastic graphic designer gave me a boost. Her name is Hanneke Treffers, an Amsterdam-based freelance designer with a photograpic and illustrating background. I really love her style!

"I love to experience the moment when an image or artwork literally under my hand appears and how that surprises me. Mostly I know which feeling or atmosphere the artwork must have, but I don't know exactly what or how it must be. That’s what I love; the surprise of life!"

SØLVE SUNDSBØ

As a fashion- student, I go trough a lot of magazines looking for inspiration. One of my favorite is Numéro and for the march issue they have a editorial shoot by one of my favorite photographers, Sølve Sundsbø. He is a Norvegian based in London, and his list of work is impressive. Top magazines, like Pop, i-D, Dased and Confused and Vouge, use him as a regular contributor, and the list of high profile clients is loooong. To name a few, there is Yves Saint Laurent, Hermes, Nike and Mac cosmetics. Other thing he has done are the album covers for Royksopp and Coldplay.
This editorial that he did for Numéro is a good example of the mysterious atmosphere he creates.

Vintage-shopping in New York

One of the first things I wanted to do on my short stop in New York, was vintage-shopping. So my friends recommended me this flea-market in Hell's Kitchen. We wen't there, and even though the weather was really bad- it had just rained, and it was freezin' cold- a couple of vendors were still there. I found some great stuff- and it didn't cost a lot either (around 10-15 dollars for lamps, vases etc.).

If you're ever going to NY, check it out: http://www.hellskitchenfleamarket.com

MoMA

Being in New york = visiting MoMA!
There is so much great stuff, and in the design department espescially, I found a lot of beautiful new and classical design objects. Since I live in Italy, I found it interesting (but of course obvious) that the design classic-room was filled with italians;)

I took a lot of pictures- check them out.

Design for elder

Sometimes less is more, and when it comes to the use of technology for elder people this really is the keyword. Not everyone is happy to have a multifunctional iphone in their hand, but would instead be more than satisfied with a Doro phone, designed specially for elder with little knowledge of technology, with a big key-board, loud sound and vibration, a good grip and its easy to understand.

N.Y. LOVE STORY

So I am back from the states, and my great romance is over. I fell in love over there, and it was difficult to cross the ocean and know that I wouldn't see my cupcake in a looong time. Yes, I fell in love with cupcakes. My friends took me to the famous Magnolia bakery at 11 pm at night (it's open until 2 am in the morning!), and the cupcake line was long! It is very popular after beein in several shows and movies (Carrie in Sex in the city ate there so you can imagine)- but it was even popular before this. Nostalgic, romantic and beautiful- the bakery had it all!

Holy toast!

Would'nt any bad morning get fantastic with a slice of heaven?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but it can also be the most miraculous. Push this plastic miracle maker into your piece of bread, remove it, then put the bread into the toaster and "presto," instant amazement and awe! As it cooks, the distinct outline of the Virgin Mary will appear in the bread. When you serve it, they won't know whether to eat it with some grape jelly or build it a shrine.

One Maria-toast, please!

My cup of tea....

Molo consist of the design duo Stephanie Forsythe and Todd MacAllen, known for their Soft House concept. But they also have a line of glass called “float”. The tea-set is genius, its simple, bold and elegant and the double-walled glass is constructed so that you don’t burn your hands on the hot liquid while holding the glass. And if you want to keep the tea warm, you can simply place a candle inside of the glass. “Float” also come in martini-glass, coffee-glasses, champagne glasses and much more..

Dear Cédric Ragot. If you ever google your self and find this little tribute to you on my blog, then I just want you to know that I am your biggest fan!!

For those unknown with his work, Cedric Ragot makes designs with the perfect combination of provocations and emotions, art and design, products that are not only functional but also trigger you to stop and take a second to look at it, and to think of the thoughts and efforts behind it. Exactly the kind of objects and philosophy I want to work with in the future.

ALTA MODA

Fashion Week is bringing out the trendy people here in Milan, and also the more extreme ones show of their style.
This picture was taken by "The Satorialist" on the street outside the Emporio Armani show.
High fashion is the only name i can think of to name this pic.
The shoes are from Antonio Berardi and the woman wearing them was writing an articel about "crazy" shoes. The only way to know if they work in real life was to put them on and take a walk outside.
I´m guessing that she had to consentrate on each step to keep from tipping over....

Lamp-girls

This might be a perfect example of how you can make art, fashion- and product design walk hand in hand! Marianne Maric, a French photographer/ stylist/ designer have taken a lampshade, transformed it into a dress and created “Lamp-girls”! See more pictures and read her interview at http://kostasvoyatzis.wordpress.com/

this is what she says in an interwiv withYatzer:
These “lamp-girls” were first conceived as an illustration of the woman as a thing conveyed by the “entertainment world,” but gradually ascending to a state of consciousness. These photographs were part of a broader vision: once the costume was finished, the “living” model put it on and took place on a white rotating base into a dark room. The public had the choice to turn on or off the lamp, the dress, the girl, the room. I wanted to “immortalize” this moment when a woman become a simple household appliance. That is how these photographs were born.

A tribute to the cloth-pin!!

Have you ever stopped and taken a closer look at a cloth-pin? Well you should!! It is just such a clever and smart design! It’s mostly used for hanging clothes but its no end to possibly with this smart object! Today the cloth-pin comes in many variations but are normally manufactured and produced as cheap as possible. Press more if you want to discover the beauty of the cloth-pins!

The cloth-pin was invented in the early 1800, by the Shakers and was basically a wood piece with a small distant in the middle that creates to “legs” and a gripping effect. Today we use clothespins with two interlocking plastic or wooden prongs, which often has wedged a small spring in between. This design was invented by David M. Smith of Springfield in 1853.

Eco- friendly Love!

We can not ignore the fact that Valentine´s Day is here and with it comes a lot of ugly gifts that are suppose to be sweet....
So here is my tip for a gift that not only spreads the love and looks nice, but it´s also good for our planets future.
The fabric grocery-bag.
Plastic bags are not trendy, good-looking or eco-friendly, and we should all start to make little changes to make this world a better place. So, buy (or make) you own fabric-bag and bring it with you the next time you go to the supermarked.
Spread the word of love with a positiv fashion statment!

Teddy: Inside-out and restuffed!

When I was younger the teddy bears I loved the most were those missing an eye or an arm. They were simply the most charm full and characteristic ones, and the small faults gave them the “unique” feeling. I think Kent Rogowski agrees with me as he has made a hole collections by using ordinary teddy bears, turned inside out and restuffed them. The creatures are odd looking and absurd yet adorable.
The bears can be seen at his webpage http://www.kentrogowski.com, in the book “Bears by Kent Rogowski” or on the travelling exhibition.
